Before you go shopping
Reach Ranching level 45, then buy the Auto Feeder from Hayden for 5,000t. It belongs inside a Large Barn or Large Coop. Fill it with accepted edible items and it will replenish that building’s trough every morning.
The unlock comes late in the ranching path
Hayden does not stock the Auto Feeder at the beginning of the game. It appears once Ranching reaches level 45, which means the intended farm already has a regular feeding routine and enough animals for automation to matter. If the item is missing from his shop, check the skill level before spending time moving buildings or restarting the day.
The 5,000t price is small beside the cost of a developed ranch, but placement has a stricter requirement: the feeder works in large buildings. A Small or Medium Barn or Coop still needs to be upgraded before the device has a home.
Place it inside the building it should serve
The Auto Feeder is not an outdoor farm machine and it does not feed every animal on the property from one central point. Put one inside the Large Barn or Large Coop whose trough you want it to refill. If both building types are active, each needs its own feeder and its own stock.
That makes a compact ranch zone useful. Keep the animal buildings close enough that checking the feeder inventories remains one short loop, but leave outdoor crops far enough away that an unfed animal cannot turn a missed refill into an accidental harvest.
What to put inside
The feeder accepts dishes, crops, and forageables and converts them into feed of corresponding quality. It is best treated as a convenience machine, not a profit calculator. Put in items you are comfortable consuming and keep rare museum pieces, quest items, and expensive cooked dishes out of its inventory.
Exact conversion behavior is still being documented. This guide therefore does not promise that a particular crop always produces a fixed number of portions, or that every edible item is an efficient choice. Start with common surplus, watch what the building consumes, and adjust the stock after a few mornings.
How the morning refill fits your routine
The feeder handles the trough at the start of the day. It does not make the rest of ranching automatic: animals still benefit from normal care, and an empty feeder cannot create food. A quick morning glance at the trough and feeder inventory is enough to catch a mistake before the day gets busy.
If nothing appears, work backward through the simple checks: confirm a large building, make sure the feeder is placed inside it, verify that accepted food is stored in the feeder, and give the game a new morning to process the refill. Picking up and replacing the device should come after those checks, not before them.
The feeder’s unlock and basic behavior were checked on August 10, 2026. Report a changed price, placement rule, or input.
