Quick answer
Legendary fish do not become available until the Fishing Legendary Skill is unlocked. After that, Cherry Fish needs spring wind at a pond; Leaf Fish needs fall wind at a river; Lightning Fish needs a summer storm or thunderstorm at a river; Snow Fish needs a winter blizzard at the ocean.
All legendary fish conditions
Each legendary fish is tied to four conditions. Use all four together: the right season will not help if the weather, water type, or shadow size is wrong.
| Fish | Required conditions |
|---|---|
| Cherry Fish | Spring · Wind · Pond · Small shadow |
| Leaf Fish | Fall · Wind · River · Small shadow |
| Lightning Fish | Summer · Storm or thunderstorm · River · Medium shadow |
| Snow Fish | Winter · Blizzard · Ocean · Medium shadow |
How to read the game cues
- Unlock the Fishing Legendary Skill
This is the required gate. Do not treat the correct weather alone as proof that legendary fish are available before the skill is unlocked.
- Check the opening-of-day cue
An eligible day can show a legendary-fish silhouette when the day begins. The game can also display “A legendary fish is nearby...” when the relevant opportunity is present.
- Go to the listed water type
Use a pond for Cherry Fish, a river for Leaf Fish or Lightning Fish, and the ocean for Snow Fish. Then inspect only the small or medium shadow listed above.
- Keep the first catch for the collection decision
Legendary fish can be donated to the museum. Check collection status before choosing any other use for the catch.
Plan by season, not by time of day
Cherry Fish and Leaf Fish share windy weather but differ in season and water. Lightning Fish and Snow Fish share a medium shadow but differ in season, weather, and water. Those contrasts make the full table more useful than hunting by shadow size alone. The game data used here has no time-of-day field for these catches, so there is no made-up morning or night window.
The opening silhouette and nearby message are cues, not replacements for the condition table. If the skill is unlocked but the season or weather does not match, the documented setup is incomplete. Likewise, a small pond shadow in spring is only relevant here when the weather is wind.
Older versions limited legendary catches in ways that may not match 1.0. Check your museum tracker before selling or using the first one you catch.
Conditions were checked for 1.0 on August 10, 2026. Report a catch condition that no longer matches the game.
